Our Official Launch

The MayorThe Mayor of Hertsmere, Rosemary Gilligan, was present on Sunday 28th June at Shenley Fete to support the official Launch of the Action Group for a Safer Shenley.

What a great day it was. Support for what we are trying to achieve was astounding and the goodwill shown by everybody we spoke to was most encouraging. We have had many volunteers to get involved with the Group, from lawyers to journalists to those who just wanted to be involved.

Additionally, thanks to our team on the day we secured 364 signatures to our very first petition. That is just on the day.

Anyone who missed the Fete can still add their name to the petition. Look for the businesses around the village with the sign in the window. Amongst those with the petition are The Doctors’ Surgery, Shenley Estates, Top Wok, The Post Office, The Black Lion Basmati, The Queen Adelaide, The King William and both Schools.

The Poster competition was entered into with great gusto by both Shenley Primary School the Clore Shalom Primary School. The finalists were judged by the Mayor and the winning posters can be seen below:

Key Stage One - Shenley School: Sophie Sedgwick

Key Stage One - Clore Shalom School: Layla Weinstein

Key Stage Two - Clore Shalom: Sam Good

Key Stage Two - Shenley School: Iona Nash Smith

Best of the rest: Lucia Davighi of Shenley School

Our thanks go to Irene Kay of Clore Shalom and to Karen Blundell of Shenley School for organising the children’s poster competition.

It does not stop here. There is a great deal of work to be done to make Shenley a safer place to live.

Please return the Membership forms that have been put through all doors in Shenley with you membership donation. Your help and donations will allow us to carry forward the obvious wishes of the village to do our best make Shenley Safer.

Come and see us at the Shenley Community Fair on Thursday 25th February from 6.30pm.

Many of you will know that it was decided over a year ago that the 40 mph speed limit along Shenleybury would be extended to beyond the junction of Farm Close going towards Bell Lane.  Now 14 month later this has not happened and Hertfordshire Highways cannot or will not tell us why.

This is a disgrace and the continued failure of Highways to carry out this simple task continues to put the children of Clore Shalom School in unnecessary danger.  It also endangers the children of Shenley JMI who walk to the Clore Shalom School for their Shared Futures Project and anyone else who uses this stretch of road.

Please feel free to email the Highways department to express your feeling about this appalling situation -
