First Members' Meeting

There was a disappointing turnout, only 13 members, to our first members’ meeting, apologies for absence were received from 7 members, however, the meeting was most productive.

Our Constitution was unanimously adopted with the proviso that the Steering Committee will look at one or two issues raised.

Keith Groves was unanimously elected as Chairman and Suzy Gould was unanimously elected as Secretary. We are most grateful to both Keith and Suzy for taking on these vital roles in the Group.

We did not find a volunteer to take on the role of Treasurer. It was proposed that Mark Blundell should approach the financial businesses in the Village to see if any of them would be willing to take on the role of Treasurer free of charge. This is not an ideal position to be in, so if anybody reading this would like to volunteer their services for a not very onerous role please contact us.

Members of the Steering Committee that were elected at the meeting, in addition to the Officers were: Reg Blake, Mary Button (Mary was not present but it is hoped that she will take a place on the committee), Mark Gould, Bandu Amarawardena, a representative from Clore Shalom School and Mark Blundell. A meeting will be called of this committee in the near future.

The discussion that ensued covered what we had done and what we had achieved so far and where we should be going from here. There were a number of good ideas put forward and all these will be taken on board by the Steering Committee, who will aim to report back to the members in September.

Thank you to all those who attended and sent apologies. Please contact us if you have ideas or wish to volunteer some time or to act as Treasurer.

Mark Blundell
Acting Chairman

Come and see us at the Shenley Community Fair on Thursday 25th February from 6.30pm.

Many of you will know that it was decided over a year ago that the 40 mph speed limit along Shenleybury would be extended to beyond the junction of Farm Close going towards Bell Lane.  Now 14 month later this has not happened and Hertfordshire Highways cannot or will not tell us why.

This is a disgrace and the continued failure of Highways to carry out this simple task continues to put the children of Clore Shalom School in unnecessary danger.  It also endangers the children of Shenley JMI who walk to the Clore Shalom School for their Shared Futures Project and anyone else who uses this stretch of road.

Please feel free to email the Highways department to express your feeling about this appalling situation -

If you cannot be there on the 25th and have some views please contact us.
